CARE & MAINTENANCE

CARE & MAINTENANCE

With the right care, your SOFACOMPANY furniture can stay beautiful, comfortable and inviting for years to come. Natural changes such as wrinkles, pilling, changes in cushion shape and variations in colour are all part of how furniture and materials naturally age.

Here are some simple tips to help you care for your furniture and keep it looking its best.

GENERAL SOFA CARE

Cushions & pillows

Our sofas are designed for everyday living, and the cushions will naturally change shape as they are used. To keep them looking even and comfortable, regularly fluff and reshape your cushions and pillows by hand. We also recommend rotating or swapping cushions where possible, flipping back cushions and avoiding sitting in exactly the same place every day. This helps distribute the upholstery evenly and prevents cushions from becoming overly compressed in one area.

Pilling

Pilling, sometimes referred to as fuzz, is the small balls of excess fibre that can appear on textile furniture. It is a natural characteristic of many textiles and does not mean that your sofa is defective. Regularly vacuuming your sofa with a soft attachment can help remove loose fibres before they develop into pills. If pilling does occur, it can easily be removed with a lint roller or an electric fabric shaver.

Wrinkles & folds

Wrinkles and folds can naturally appear as your sofa is used, depending on the design and construction of the furniture. Simply smooth the fabric with your hands regularly to help keep the surface looking neat. For fabrics that can be steamed, a steamer or iron with a steam function can help reduce wrinkles. Always place a well-wrung cloth between the steam and the fabric and avoid steaming directly onto the upholstery. Allow the fabric to rest for approximately 30 minutes between steaming sessions.

Everyday care

Vacuum your sofa regularly using a soft mouthpiece to remove dust, crumbs and loose fibres. This helps keep the textile fresh and prevents excess fibres from contributing to pilling. We recommend protecting textile furniture with a suitable textile impregnation product before use, or after cleaning. Impregnation provides an invisible layer of protection against dirt and grime without changing the appearance or breathability of the fabric.

Spills & stains

Accidents happen. If something is spilled on your sofa, act as quickly as possible and gently remove the excess without rubbing the stain further into the fabric. For deeper cleaning, use a suitable textile cleaner and always follow the instructions for the specific product and fabric. Removable sofa covers should not be placed in a washing machine. Instead, we recommend using a specialised dry cleaner.

Colour transfer

Dark clothing, particularly new denim, can transfer colour onto lighter textiles. This is not considered a fault with the sofa fabric. Denim can also have an abrasive effect on furniture textiles, so take extra care when wearing new or dark jeans on light upholstery.

Velour

Velour can naturally appear lighter or darker depending on how the pile is pressed or brushed. Marks caused by sitting or leaning against the fabric are a natural characteristic of velour and are not a defect. Simply brush the pile gently by hand to help restore the surface.

CREAKING SOFAS

It is not unusual for a sofa to make some creaking sounds after being delivered or moved. Different materials can respond differently to changes in temperature and humidity, and the sound will often disappear once the sofa has had time to acclimatise to its surroundings. If your sofa continues to creak, check that the modules are properly connected and that the sofa is not positioned too tightly against a wall. You can also check that the legs are securely tightened and that the floor underneath the sofa is not causing the noise. If the creaking continues, please record a short video capturing the sound and send it to us so that we can help investigate the issue.
