Boucle has the best of both worlds when it comes to comfort and look. It has a soft feel is comfortable to sit on and also looks amazing from across the room because of its texture. Boucle is a woven loop fabric which makes it look bumpy from far away—but it’s soft and comfortable from close up. You’ll want to sit on your sofa all day long with this material.
It’s clean up and sheen
One of the problems with man-made fibres in upholstery is that they sometimes give off an odd sheen when sunlight hits them. Boucle doesn’t have this problem. It’s been engineered to absorb light and not reflect which instead gives it a great cotton glow that doesn’t look like a shiny reflection. The look gives it a modernist matte appearance which is perfect for the modern 21st century home. Boucle fabric also has low liquid absorption which makes it a perfect upholstery choice because it’s so easy to clean. Your sofa can look both chic and be easy to maintain for the long term. Our boucle upholstery is available in Maya Cream and Maya Warm Grey so if you have kids or pets and are worried about the long-term wear of the fabric choose the Maya Warm Grey shade rather than the Cream.
It’s modernist history
Boucle is not a new fabric—in fact it’s been used since the mid century for modernist furniture. This fabric is the same as the upholstery on the famous egg chair by the modernist furniture designer Arne Jacobsen in the 1970s.

In 2012 our founders Christian and Cathrine Rudolph set out to challenge the furniture industry. Up until then, high-quality design at affordable prices was quite hard to come by. So were the design aesthetics and the quality of the materials used. Their idea was to offer high-quality design at fair prices, thus challenging the way we buy designer furniture.
Creating high-quality design at fair prices continues to be our mission affecting everything we do. And for this to come true, we carefully handle all steps in the process and deliver our products directly from our own factory. This concept removes any non-value-adding links from the supply chain, breaking down the costs. Controlling the entire production chain furthermore makes us so agile that we can offer customised solutions to fit any surrounding and any need.
The couch is no longer reserved for the private home only but has become a centrepiece in offices, public spaces and hotels as well, evoking a warm, informal and more homely atmosphere wherever situated. But in a professional setting, one cannot assume a "one size fits all"-approach, which is why our SOFACOMPANY design team is here to help bring your ideas to life through unique customised solutions.
To succeed with a concept such as ours, you need a reliable, high-quality production and extremely skilled craftsmen. And all of this, Christian and Cathrine Rudolph found in Vietnam and the Hoang family, who to this day still run the production at our factory, where our furniture is skilfully build by more than 1.000 local craftsmen. But there is more to it than just craftsmanship. Proud of our workforce, we show our utmost gratitude by supporting local establishments such as schools and orphanages.
We've made SOFACOMPANY sustainable and carbon-neutral, inviting us to rethink everything as we go. From furniture parts to materials, transportation, durability and the production itself. From solar power at our factory, support of carbon offset projects and environmental NGO's to developing new furniture fabric made out of recycled, biodegradable and sustainable materials. But being a sustainable company is a state of flux, and we intend to keep improving in every way possible towards a shared sustainable future.
