We're authentically Danish
In a world of copies, choose the original.
Our designs are created by our design team in Denmark and brought to life by skilled upholsterers at our own factory in Vietnam. From the first sketch to the final stitch, we stay closely involved in the process to ensure every detail meets our standards for quality, comfort and design.
Every SOFACOMPANY piece carries this connection between Danish design and skilled craftsmanship. No unnecessary middlemen. No inflated mark-ups. Just thoughtful design, made with care and delivered directly to you.
Authentic Danish design. Direct to you.
OUR PASSION FOR FASHION + DESIGN
In 2012 our founders Christian and Cathrine Rudolph set out to challenge the furniture industry. Up until then, high-quality design at affordable prices was quite hard to come by. So were the design aesthetics and the quality of the materials used. Their idea was to offer high-quality design at fair prices, thus challenging the way we buy designer furniture.
Making the dream possible
Creating high-quality furniture at fair prices has always been at the heart of SOFACOMPANY. That’s why we keep a close eye on every step from the first sketch to the finished sofa and work directly with our own factory.
By keeping the process in our own hands and cutting out unnecessary middlemen, we can focus our resources where they matter: on good design, quality materials and lasting comfort.
It also gives us the flexibility to create furniture that works for real homes and real spaces. From different sizes and configurations to a wide choice of fabrics, our designs can be customised to suit your space, your style and the way you live.
Making every space feel like home
Sofas aren’t just for the home.
They have become an essential part of offices, hotels and public spaces, adding comfort and character while creating a warmer, more welcoming atmosphere.
But professional spaces are unique, and the right solution isn’t always one-size-fits-all. That’s where our design team comes in. From relaxed office lounges to welcoming hotel lobbies and shared spaces, we work with you to bring your vision to life through flexible configurations and customised solutions designed around your space and needs.
High-Quality Production & Skilled Craftsmanship
Great design deserves great craftsmanship. That’s why we work closely with skilled artisans at our own factory in Vietnam, where more than 1,000 local craftsmen bring our designs to life.
Our partnership with the Hoang family goes back to the early days of SOFACOMPANY. Their experience, dedication and understanding of furniture craftsmanship continue to play an important role in how we make our products today.
For us, making great furniture is also about taking responsibility for the community around us. We’re proud to support local initiatives, including schools and orphanages, and to contribute to the people and communities that are part of our journey.

from 173 reviewsSuch a comfortable wonderful sofa.
It was a very good experience with the sofa company, especially with Chantal.
Good quality, excellent support. I can highly recommend the company and the Ernest Sofa. I suggest to buy cushions with the sofa, unless you have very long legs...

The quality and comfort of the sofa is amazing!
From the moment we stepped into the store to the moment our new couch was delivered, we experienced nothing but genuine care and outstanding service. A big thank you to Chantal for not only guiding us through the selection process in-store but also for her attentive follow-up and communication afterward — it truly made all the difference.
We’re also incredibly grateful to the delivery team, who managed a tricky entrance with patience and professionalism, making sure the couch was perfectly placed and we were completely happy.
And finally, for anyone considering investing in a sleeping couch that combines beautiful design, lasting durability, and real comfort — look no further. We couldn’t be happier with our choice!

Style Your Home with Danish Home Furniture: Expert Tips and Trends by SOFACOMPANY
Choosing the right home furniture can transform our living spaces into comfortable and stylish sanctuaries. Whether we're looking for a cosy corner couch, an elegant dining chair, or a versatile daybed sofa, the options available in South Africa cater to a variety of tastes and budgets.
Let's explore how we can select pieces that not only enhance our home's aesthetic appeal but also provide the functionality we need for everyday living. From classic designs to modern trends, there's something for everyone.
The Evolution of Home Furniture
Home furniture has transformed significantly over the years. From ornate, handcrafted pieces to sleek, minimalist designs, the journey of home furniture reflects changes in aesthetics, technology, and societal needs.
From Traditional to Contemporary
Traditional furniture, characterised by detailed carvings and rich materials, exudes elegance and luxury. Think Victorian sofas, mahogany dining tables, and intricately designed armoires. These pieces, though often heavy and cumbersome, symbolise timeless sophistication.
In contrast, contemporary furniture embraces simplicity and functionality. Clean lines, neutral colours, and multifunctional pieces define this style. For example, a modular sofa with built-in storage exemplifies contemporary design. This shift caters to modern living, where space is a premium, and versatility is key. Scandinavian furniture, known for its minimalist yet functional design, perfectly encapsulates the contemporary ethos.
The Impact of Technology on Furniture
Advancements in technology revolutionise how we interact with our home furniture. Smart furniture, embedded with technology, offers convenience and innovation. Integrated charging stations, voice-activated lighting, and adjustable ergonomic features are common in modern pieces.
For instance, smart beds now track sleep patterns to optimise comfort. Tables with wireless chargers eliminate clutter, enhancing both aesthetics and functionality. This integration of technology not only elevates the user experience but also aligns with the fast-paced, tech-savvy lifestyles we lead today.
Home furniture evolves continually, merging traditional craftsmanship with contemporary innovation. This dynamic progression ensures it remains central to our living spaces, adapting to our changing needs and preferences.
When it comes to home furniture, many of us wrestle with decisions. We balance aesthetics, functionality, and comfort. An interior design expert with decades of experience, Jonno Sherwin, offers valuable insights that guide us through these choices. Let's delve into these key considerations for your living spaces, big or small.
Key Factors to Consider When Choosing Home Furniture
Choosing home furniture might seem daunting, but understanding key factors helps. Our homes reflect our personalities, so picking the right pieces is crucial.
Material Quality and Durability
High-quality materials enhance longevity. Investing in hardwood or metal frames for sofas ensures they withstand daily use. Upholstery fabrics like leather or high-thread-count cotton resist wear and tear better than synthetics. For instance, leather ages well, developing a unique patina that tells a story. However, if your space sees heavy use by kids or pets, microfibre might be more practical since it's easier to clean and maintain.
Comfort and Functionality
Comfort should never be sacrificed. We often spend hours on our sofas, so ergonomic design is key. Look for well-padded cushions and adequate back support. Multifunctional furniture, like sofa beds or storage ottomans, can transform small spaces. Imagine hosting guests and transforming your living room into a cosy sleeping area without much fuss.
Aesthetic Appeal and Style Compatibility
Furniture must complement your style. Whether you prefer modern, minimalist, or traditional, choose pieces that fit your vision. Consider the room's colour palette. Perhaps a bold, statement piece like a turquoise armchair adds a pop of colour and becomes a conversation starter. On the other hand, matching wood tones and textures create harmony and balance in a space.
Project Inspirations and Design Ideas
Interior design offers endless possibilities. Here are a few inspirations:
Small Spaces
Small spaces can be tricky yet rewarding. Use modular furniture to maximise space. A loveseat instead of a full-sized sofa in your living room offers seating without overwhelming the room. Floating shelves, rather than bulky bookcases, keep floor space clear and visually expand the area. Even in a tight spot, you can create an inviting, functional environment.
Large Spaces
Large rooms require balance. Sectional sofas define areas and create a focal point in vast living rooms. Use rugs to ground different zones like a reading nook or a media corner. Mix large furniture with smaller accent pieces to avoid a cavernous feel. A large dining table, paired with a mix of chairs and benches, fits seamlessly into expansive dining areas, fostering a communal atmosphere.
Different Rooms
Each room has its vibe. In a bedroom, a statement bed frame sets the tone, whether it's a vintage metal frame or a modern sleigh bed. A well-placed armchair can turn a corner into a reading nook. Kitchens benefit from practical, stylish seating like barstools at a counter island, perfect for casual dining. Bathrooms get a luxurious touch with free-standing storage units that combine elegance and utility.
Jonno Sherwin's experience teaches us that the right furniture makes a significant difference. By prioritising quality, comfort, and style, we create harmonious and welcoming homes. Whether working with a compact city apartment or a spacious suburban house, these insights guide us in making informed decisions.
Popular Styles of Home Furniture
Home furniture styles vary greatly, offering something for every taste and preference. Let's delve into some popular styles, sharing insights from Jonno Sherwin's extensive experience in interior design.
Modern Minimalist
Modern minimalist furniture focuses on simplicity and functionality. Clean lines, neutral colours, and unobtrusive designs define this style. We see furniture with built-in smart features like charging stations, which blend seamlessly into minimalist aesthetics. Jonno often recommends multi-functional pieces, such as a sofa that can convert into a bed, especially for smaller spaces. These pieces maximise utility without compromising style.
Rustic and Vintage
Rustic and vintage styles bring warmth and character to a home. Weathered wood, distressed finishes, and antique furnishings are key elements. Think of a vintage mahogany dresser in the bedroom or a reclaimed wood dining table in the kitchen. According to Jonno, incorporating rustic pieces can make a room feel cosy and inviting. He suggests mixing rustic furniture with contemporary accessories to create a balanced look.
Scandinavian Design
Scandinavian design is known for its simplicity, minimalism, and functionality. Furniture in this style often includes light-coloured woods, such as birch and pine, and fabrics in soft, muted tones. We love how Scandinavian pieces, like a sleek wooden coffee table or a cosy armchair, can make any room feel airy and open. Jonno highlights the importance of natural light and simple yet functional designs in achieving the Scandinavian look. For larger spaces, adding a Scandinavian-style sectional sofa can enhance both comfort and aesthetic appeal.
By understanding these popular styles, we can select home furniture that best suits our space. Jonno's insights help us create living environments that are not only stylish but also functional and inviting.
Sustainable Furniture Choices for Eco-Conscious Homes
Looking for sustainable home furniture can feel daunting. But with some expert tips, finding eco-friendly pieces becomes simpler and more rewarding. We're here to share valuable insights from Jonno Sherwin's extensive experience in interior design.
Benefits of Sustainable Furniture
Choosing sustainable furniture offers several key benefits. First, it reduces our environmental footprint. Eco-friendly materials like reclaimed wood and bamboo are renewable and biodegradable, lessening waste and pollution. By opting for sustainable furniture, we support ethical manufacturing practices. Many eco-conscious brands use fair labor practices, ensuring that workers receive fair wages and work in safe conditions.
How to Identify Eco-Friendly Furniture
Identifying eco-friendly furniture involves looking for specific characteristics. Start by checking material sources. Sustainable furniture often uses recycled or reclaimed materials, reducing the demand for new resources. Look for certifications such as FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or GREENGUARD, guaranteeing the materials meet environmental standards.
Next, consider the manufacturing process. Furniture made with low VOC (volatile organic compounds) adhesives and finishes are healthier for our homes. These chemicals can release harmful toxins, affecting indoor air quality. Brands that use natural oils and water-based finishes are better options.
Finally, focus on durability. Investing in high-quality sustainable furniture means fewer replacements, saving money in the long run and reducing waste. Pieces built to last often feature sturdy construction and timeless designs.
Sherwin suggests incorporating a mix of styles to create a warm, inviting space while maintaining an eco-conscious approach. By blending sustainable furniture with our existing pieces, we can achieve a cohesive and stylish look that's also kind to the planet.
How to Care for Your Home Furniture
Proper care ensures our home furniture remains beautiful and durable. Let's delve into essential tips for cleaning, maintenance, and protection.
Routine Cleaning and Maintenance Tips
Regular upkeep keeps furniture looking fresh. Dust frequently with a soft cloth to avoid build-up. For wooden pieces, use a suitable polish or oil every six months. Always follow manufacturer instructions and spot-test cleaners to prevent damage.
Vacuum upholstered furniture weekly using a soft brush attachment. Spot clean stains immediately. Mix mild detergent with water, apply sparingly, and blot with a clean cloth. Avoid soaking fabrics.
Metal furniture should be wiped down with a damp cloth. To remove rust, use a mixture of vinegar and baking soda. Rinse and dry thoroughly to prevent corrosion.
Leather furniture benefits from monthly conditioning. Use a pH-balanced leather cleaner, then apply conditioner to keep it supple. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading.
Protecting Furniture from Wear and Tear
Preventing damage prolongs furniture life. Place coasters under drinks and use placemats during meals. This avoids stains and heat marks.
Reposition furniture periodically to prevent uneven wear, especially on carpets and rugs. Use felt pads under feet to prevent scratching hard floors.
Maintain a stable indoor climate. Extreme humidity or dryness can cause wood to warp or crack. Ideal relative humidity is between 40% and 55%.
For households with children or pets, consider washable slipcovers for upholstered furniture. They’re easier to clean and replace.
By following these simple steps, we ensure our home furniture stands the test of time and continues to enhance our living spaces.
Conclusion
Choosing the right home furniture is more than just a design choice; it's about creating a space that reflects our values and lifestyle. By considering modern designs, sustainable options, and expert advice, we can make informed decisions that enhance both the beauty and functionality of our homes. Remember to blend styles thoughtfully and maintain your furniture with care to ensure it remains a cherished part of your living space for years to come. Let's embrace the journey of furnishing our homes with pieces that are not only stylish and durable but also kind to our planet.
